Lee Parks’ Total Control Training

The Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic was created by national champion Lee Parks and covers the riding technology addressed in his best selling book Total Control High Performance Street Riding Techniques. This is one of the most adaptive programs available to the public today and is equally adaptable to high horsepower high performances sportbikes as it is to cruisers and tourers with limited suspension and ground clearance.

Who It's For

The Total Control ARC is for every street rider looking to push their skill past the foundations taught in the Basic Rider Course or Experienced Rider Course, as well as riders looking to get to the next competitive level at the track. With high-horsepower superbikes, large-displacement cruisers and super-heavy-weight tourers, riding skills are more important than ever for safe, fun motorcycling.

This program gives you the opportunity to improve your skills without taking on the risks of learning in a high-speed environment. By eliminating the excess risk and lowering speeds you will learn to perfect high speed technique without the inherent risk of a high speed environment. In this environment the techniques can be learned and perfected quickly and safely. Once you have learned the techniques during this clinic then you can them take to the next step at the Advanced Street Skills or a track school.

Why It Works

You will participate in dynamic classroom training, which includes both theory and application of the Total Control ARC techniques. By including a basic analysis of vehicular dynamics, you will gain a clear understanding of how your actions affect your bike. For instance, in the suspension portion of the class, you learn how to analyze the effectiveness of your bikes suspension and how to set it up for maximum control and comfort.

The riding portion of the training is done on a large skid pad where each of the skills are individually broken down and practiced. Working on only one skill at a time is the fastest way to make consistent riding improvements. The beauty of doing it this way is that you are never asked to make a huge "leap of faith" in any one area. Each skill is built up in small two-mph increments until the desired result is achieved. Combined with a strategic "building block" formula for integrating the individual skills into a complete riding package, the Total Control ARC enables you to learn faster and easier than ever before. Equally important, all the Total Control ARC skills are taught with their direct applications for street riding. After all, knowing how to do something is of little value if you don't understand when and where to use it.

What It Covers

Advancing your cornering technique is the primary focus of the Total Control ARC. Skills addressed include corner entry, line selection, body position and corner exit. There are slightly different versions of these depending on the type of bike ridden, but all follow the same philosophical principals that are taught in the course. Throttle control and throttle/brake transitions are also covered in great detail. Additionally, super-tight, low-speed, "parking lot" turns are taught.

Requirements

  • Students must provide their own motorcycle or scooter in proper working order.
  • A minimum of one year of riding experience.
  • Although not required, students without any prior formal training are recommend to take an Experienced Rider Course prior to taking the Total Control ARC.
  • Full protective gear is required for all students, which includes a DOT-compliant helmet (full-face recommended), motorcycle jacket and pants, gloves and boots that cover the ankles. Jeans and fingerless gloves are not allowed. Absolutely no exceptions.
  • For safety reasons no race tires or race compound tires allowed regardless if they are DOT-compliant.
