Information for Military and DoD Civilians

Puget Sound Safety (PSS) has the training programs you need to get on Lewis, McChord and other military installations in Washington State. As of January 2009 PPS no longer manages the training conducted on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). Off-base PSS has the same training available and it will meet all the requirements you need.

If you are interested in the training offered on-base you'll need to contact the Safety Office about registering (253-967-3079). The only difference between on-base and PSS training is that the military does not reimburse you for taking the training off-base. However, we have more training sites available (Olympia, Steilacoom, Tacoma South, and Tacoma North) and we offer training dates on weekends.

If you take the Basic Rider Course and are Military stationed in WA, you can qualify for the subsidized rate - reducing the cost of training for you.

Do I need an MSF Completion Card?

By default Puget Sound Safety issues the Washington State Rider Course Completion Card when a student passes the written and riding test included with the Basic Rider Course and Experienced Rider Course. All bases in Washington State recognize and understand that this card means the rider meets DoD training requirements.

The only time a rider might need an MSF Completion Card is if the rider will be traveling to or stationed at a base outside of Washington State in the near future. The optional MSF Completion Card is recognized and understood more commonly in other states.

How do I get the optional MSF Completion Card?

The MSF Completion Card is an additional $3 on top of any course tuition due. The MSF Completion Card can be requested during registration (online, in person, or over the phone), or after your training course has been completed.

This optional card is only available to riders who have passed the written and riding tests as part of the MSF Basic Rider Course or the MSF Experienced Rider Course. The Intermediate Rider Training does not qualify for an MSF Completion Card at this time.

I lost my WA/MSF Completion Card. Can I get a new one?

Yes, we can create you a new completion card. There is a $15 fee to look up the records from your class, create the card and mail it out. If you need both the WA and MSF cards the fee is $20. Contact our office to order new completion cards.
