Puget Sound Safety has begun to offer motorcycle maintenance classes designed to provide riders with the simple skills to keep their motorcycles in top running condition. Basic maintenance is essential to staying safe on the road by avoiding mechanical failures that could cause a crash. Even if a crash is avoided, roadside breakdowns are inconvenient and expensive. Let us help keep you safe and save you money!
Level I is 6 hours of instruction. The text Motorcycle Owners Manual by Hugo Wilson is included with this course.
Beginner (No experience necessary)
“What Every Motorcyclist Should Know”
With this course you will learn how to do essential service and inspections in your driveway or garage using common tools. You will be able to identify the most needed repairs & perform detailed pre-ride inspections that can help avoid a dangerous accident or costly breakdown caused by disrepair. Keep your bike in top running condition or ensure that service performed by others is done correctly. As a bonus you will learn how to properly prepare your bike for winter/long term storage.
This level is designed to give basic knowledge and skills such as…
· The parts & pieces that make up your motorcycle (terminology)
· Adjustments for control, comfort, & fit
· Owner maintenance (oil change, cable inspections, chain maintenance, free-play adjustments, replacing light bulbs, etc.)
· Suspension (what it is and how to adjust it)
· Properly clean your motorcycle
· Preparing your bike for winter or long term storage
Level II is 8 hours of instruction. This course will utilize the text Motorcycle Owners Manual by Hugo Wilson which can be purchased at the course.
Beginner – Intermediate (Some familiarization with motorcycles needed)
“Simple Service Jobs”
Level II begins to explore how all of the parts work together to form complete systems. By learning how things are put together and interact you will be better able to identify and repair problems before they leave you stranded. Whearas level I is the 'do it" class Level II is the "how does it all work" class. Level I is recommended before taking this course.
